In a move to promote fairness, equity, and justice, stakeholders from Gurara, Suleja, and Tafa Federal Constituency in Niger state have reiterated their commitment to the existing zoning arrangement for the Federal Constituency Seat in the 2027 general election.
The stakeholders, led by Mal. Mohammed Babangida, made this declaration in Suleja recently, shortly after the defection of Rt. Hon. Adamu Tanko Lokoja from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Mal. Mohammed Babangida, the defection of Rt Hon. Adamu Tanko Lokoja was a welcome development for APC but the Federal Constituency Seat should be zoned to Gurara Local Government Area in 2027 as Suleja and Tafa Local Governments have been occupying the seat for over two decades.
He argued, ” For the past 25 years, the people of Tafa and Suleja have been the one producing occupants for the Federal Constituency seat, while the people of Gurara Local Government Area are busy supporting whosoever that emerged. It is time to give Gurara a chance to occupied the Federal Constituency”.
A recent poll survey conducted by an independent observer shows that 70% of electorates in Gurara, Suleja, and Tafa Federal Constituency agreed that the Federal Constituency Seat should be zoned to Gurara Local Government Area with Hon. Haruna Abubakar Arafat Magaji as the preferred candidate.
This decision is aimed at reducing tension and acrimony among the Local Government Areas involved in the Federal Constituency.
Mal Mohammed Babangida then called on the ruling party to listen to the voice of the people and zone the Federal Constituency Seat to Gurara in 2027.
Some of the stakeholders noted, “It is time for Gurara to have a seat in the Federal Constituency. They have been supporting others for too long; it’s their turn now.”
According to a resident of Suleja ” The stakeholders’ commitment to the zoning arrangement is a step in the right direction. It promotes fairness, equity, and justice, and gives Gurara a chance to have a seat in the Federal Constituency”.
“The ruling party ( APC) must listen to the voice of the people and make the necessary decisions to ensure a peaceful and victorious election in 2027”.
“However, will the ruling party heed this call? Only time will tell”
