The Nigeria Labour Congress( NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria ( TUC) have called on President Tinubu not to present any figure regarding the Minimum wage to the National Assembly without consulting the Organized Labour and Organized Private Sector.
The President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero and his counterparts from TUC Festus Osifo disclosed this to Journalist on Thursday at the sideline of the ongoing International Labour Conference at the Palau’s du Nation in Geneva, Switzerland.
Ajaero said ” we do not expect the President to present a final figure to the National Assembly without consulting with the Organized Labour and the State Governors. Every one will still come together to discuss before transmission to the National Assembly.
” Moreover, we have not seen the contents of what has been submitted to the President. We will insist on seeing the contents and appending our signature to every page. We will not append our signatures to any page we are not satisfied with.
“As the representative here, we can not specified the exact amount until we consult, review the offers and determine what is fair for Nigerian Workers” NLC declared.
However, President Tinubu in his Democracy day broadcast on Wednesday promised to forward a bill on the the New Minimum wage to the National Assembly as soon as they resume from Sallah Break.
