The Niger State universal Basic Education Board is determined to implement the standard basic education policy in the State in line with its core mandate of providing Basic education level to all School aged Children in the State.
The Executive Chairman of the Board, Mallam Mohammad Baba Ibrahim stated this in Kontagora in continuation of his on the spot assessment to the ongoing UBEC/SUBEB projects across the State. He maintained that, the policy will entail establishing Early childhood center, Basic six and the Junior Secondary School in one place so as to track the progress of the pupils performance and to share resources in terms of teaching personnel and other facilities available to the School. “The program will be in phases as we hope it will get across to all Schools overtime”,he added.
While in Kontagora, the Executive Chairman was taken round the project site of the Bilingual education project which is an intervention of the Islamic Development Bank aimed at inclusive basic education for all School aged population with particular emphasis on Al-majiri, out of School and vulnerable Children. Mallam Baba Ibrahim after the inspection, lamented his displeasure over the poor quality and slow pace of the work. He then directed the State program Manager of the program to invite the contractor to his office to explain why the work is not in progress compared to other centers visited.
In another development, the Chairman visited the ongoing UBEC direct intervention project of Model JSS Kwngwara, Kontagora. He was pleased with the level of work and urged the contractor to maintain the approved specification.
The Executive Chairman while in Beri community under Mariga Local Government Area, he inspected the completed SUBEB intervention project tagged “Abu Lolo legacy project”. He frowned at the finishing level of the project and directed that the contractor should return to site and repair all the anomalies pointed out. The Chairman also took time to interact with the School Based Management Committee members led by the Councilor representing Beri Ward who also doubled as the leader, Mariga Local Government, Hon.Aliyu Bagga Mohammed. He encouraged them to take ownership of their School by assisting the government in carrying out some minor repairs before it escalates to a bigger one.
In the same vein, the Chairman stopped over at the Kagara Bilingual education project site. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work but hinged on the contractor to speed up the work so as to meet up with the March,2024 dateline of commencing the full academic program in the School.
