The site Engr supervising the construction of IBBU Teaching Hospital ongoing at the former Shiroro Hotel,Bldr Denis Abara is currently lying in pains at the accident ward of IBB Specialist Hospital Minna for over one week today.
Bldr Denis Abara who is a staff of Ministry Of Works and Infrastructural Development was officially assigned to the site as a project supervisor from commencement of the work,a responsibility he assumed diligently till the he met his Waterloo.
According to Bldr Abara, his attention had been drawn to a deficient portion of the work which was at foundation level (German Floor) and he called on the labourers to address.
He said that he had actually explained the steps for the remedial measure but as he turned to give way to labourers to act, the Site Engineer missed his step, falling on a strategic but protruding stone and sustained a fracture on his left tight above the knee.
Realizing that his leg had been broken,Bldr Denis immediately put a call to his boss, the Director of Public Buildings,who without delay, arrived the scene and rushed him (Denis Abara) to IBB Specialist Hospital at Chanchaga.
However,an intriguing and worrisome development is that in spite of the fact that Bldr Abara collided with the misfortune while on active duty, his situation at the hospital can hardly be differentiated from ordinary sick people who carried themselves to the facility, remaining at the mercy of nurses and cleaners.
Meanwhile,as the Doctors are contemplating surgery of the fractured leg, Consultant orthopedic Doctor was yet to visit the patient after one week on hospital bed and up to time of this report.
Against this background, the victim amidst lamentations, was begging to be moved out of the hospital for local option outside as the unexpected (amputation) was looming.
It was also learnt that, despite the official inadequacies frustrating effective and prompt management of the patient, the CMD of the hospital was demonstrating enough concern while the Director of Public Buildings,Arc Wonigi has remained committed and dutiful to the plight.
Contacted earlier, the Director of Public Buildings, Arc Wonigi confirmed the incident, adding that the Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development was on top of the situation.
He explained that the Ministry cannot do it alone but in collaboration with the management of the hospital.
Nevertheless, the victim’s relations represented by Hon Mrs Rose Abara have appealed to the management of the Hospital to fast track the provision of plaiting iron for speedy surgery to avoid complications.
