The Nigeria Labour Congress will not stand in the way of the Labour party Presidential candidate ( PETER OBI) should he decides to defect to another political platform.”
This was disclosed by the NLC spokesman Benson Upah, during an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH in Lagos.
He said that the issue of whether Peter Obi should stay or leave the party should not be debated, saying that the former Anambra State Governor ( PETER OBI) was free to determine his destiny.
According to him, the priority of Nigeria Labour Congress for now , is to unseat Julius Abure as National Chairman of Labour party.
Pointing out that the said National Convention which returned Abure to office is in illegal and NLC would never confer legitimacy or give recognition to his Leadership.
Speaking further, ” Our position on this matter is clear and has not changed. , As far as we are concern, Abure does not exist”.
It would be recalled that a group of retired workers under the aegis of Lagos Assembly of Labour Veterans and Trade Unionists has also called for the resignation of the embattled National Chairman of Labour party and the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, over this contentious Leadership Struggle.
Moreso, the Labour party Presidential candidate Peter Obi, also seems to be at loggerheads with the Leadership of the party over the manner it conducted the Convention in Nnewi, Anambra state, despite his plea for wider consultations.
