The presence of the Nigerian Army in Kano was not involved in the Royal tussle but to take proactive steps to checkmate the possible breakdown or breach of security that may be occasioned by the tussle.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu disclosed this during a chat with Journalist recently in Abuja.
He said contrary to the insinuations by the Kano State chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association as Published on 26 May 2024, troops of the Nigerian Army have not been involved in the Kano State Emirates tussle at same time not involved in enforcing any Court order.
Speaking further, he said the issue of paramount Concern to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies is the prevention of breakdown of law and order in the State, which could be taken advantage of by Non- state actors.
The Director of Army Public Relations said the military would only intervene when it becomes apparent that the intensity of the security becomes Overwhelming for police.
It will be recalled that the Kano State House of Assembly had repealed the Law which former Governor, Abudullahi Ganduje used to dethrone Sanusi in 2020, paving the way for reinstatement of Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
While signing the new Law on Friday, Governor Abba Yusuf had directed the deposed Emirs to leave their officials residence and hand over properties in their possession to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs who doubles as Deputy Governor.
However the deposed Ado Bayero who was outside the State at the time of the order, returned to the ancient city and made his way to the Mini Palace in Nassarawa.
The Kano State Governor, while reacting to the development, called for the Emirs arrest but the police however vowed to respect Court order stopping Sanusi’s reinstatement.
