…Hon. Ibrahim Mami Ijah, Niger State Commissioner for Livestock and Fisheries, during a Council Meeting.

The United States of America has disclosed that it does not have intention of establishing military base in Nigeria, despite speculations following the withdrawal of American troops from Niger.

The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), Major General Kenneth Eckman emphasized that there are no discussions between the U.S. and Nigeria regarding the placement of a military base.

He also provided updates on the successful and orderly withdrawal of U.S. troops from Niger, highlighting that all U.S. military facilities in the country have been handed over to Nigerien authorities.

General Eckman however acknowledged that the regional security remains a challenge, particularly with the rise of violent extremist organizations.

Pointing out that the U.S. approach involves working closely with regional military and civilian leaders to address these threats, emphasizing the importance of security partnerships rather than unilateral actions by the U.S.

Regarding Nigeria, Eckman noted that the country has a strong military and police force, and U.S. security assistance aims to complement Nigeria’s efforts in maintaining security.
