The International Fish Market Katcha has been described as an economic potential with the capacity to improve on the Internally Generated Revenue of Niger State if fully harnessed.
Hon. Mohammed Babanna Honourable Chairman Katcha Local Government, Niger State |
This was disclosed by the stakeholders from the Niger South Senatorial District in a chat with journalists in Minna recently.
The Stakeholders believe that the Katcha International Fish Market which is highly been patronized by Millions of people across the country on a weekly market days, can do more in terms of improving on the internally Generated Revenue of Niger State if the state Government invest into the development of Infrastructural facilities in the market.
The Stakeholders maintained that the International Fish Market which is located along the River Niger in Katcha Local Government area of the Niger South Senatorial District lacks the neccessary Infrastructural facilities like Shops, portable water supply, effective Transportation system and Hotel accommodation for those who came from distance to buy dry Fish and other agricultural produces.
Although, the Chairman of Katcha Local Government area, Hon. Mohammed Babana as well as the Senator representing the Niger South Senatorial District, Muhammad Bima Enagi have constructed shops for Katcha International Fish Market, it can only accomodate less than 10 % of the traders., while hotel accommodation and the Transport system remain on attended to.
It is against this background that the Stakeholders are now calling on the Niger State Government to invest more on the development of Katcha International Fish Market by providing Shops, hotels for accomodating those who came from distance and Mini- ships to enhance effective water transportation for those who are coming from the South East to buy dry Fish and other Agricultural produces on Market days.
The Stakeholders believe that if all these things are done, it would create an opportunity for Niger State Government to make more additional millions of Naira as internally Generated Revenue just exactly the same way the former Governor of Sokoto State Aliyu Wamakko developed ILLELA MARKET to boost the internally Generated Revenue of Sokoto state.
In a related development, the Chairman of Katcha Local Government area, Hon. Mohammed Babana has described International Fish Market Katcha as a source of employment opportunities to alot of Youths in his Local Government area and beyond.
Hon. Babana who disclosed this during a chat with journalists recently in Minna believes that the market can do better in terms of providing employment opportunities and also improving on the State Internally Generated Revenue if the Government would support the massive deployment of Infrastructural facilities at Katcha International Fish Market.
Although, Katcha Local Government Chairman said during an interview with Achievers Magazine that the administration of GovernorAbubakar Sani Bello has done alot in the area of Infrastructural development but the development of Infrastructural facilities around Katcha International Fish Market will go along way to boost the economic growth in Niger State as well as create more employment opportunities to teeming unemployed Youths.
Hon Babana told Achievers Magazine how his administration almost purchased Mini-Ships to encourage water Transportation but was prevailed upon by the people of the Local Government to divert the Funds for the Expansion of their General Hospital.
The Council Chairman who is serving the Local Government for the second term as the Chairman believes that democracy will be better appreciated when elected officeholders start to prioritize the development of the constituency they represent.
