The Niger- Kogi Area Command of the Nigeria Custom Service has intercepted 283 wraps of cannabis sativa with estimate duty paid value of Five Million Six Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira concealed in a used Honda Accord vehicle along Lokoja-Abuja expressway.
The Area Commander, Comptroller Pascal Chibuoke disclosed this in a statement during media briefing recently held at the Command Headquarter, Minna, Niger State.
According to Comptroller Pascal, an Honda Accord was recently intercepted along Lokoja-Abuja expressway by the Kogi Out- station patrol Team of the Nigeria Custom Service on the suspicion that it was conveying a prohibited items.
While the officers were on search of the Vehicle, the driver realized that the Eagle eyes had caught the concealment, abandoned the Vehicle and fled into the bush to evade arrest.
The action of the driver triggered the Interest of our operatives to intensify the search which led to the discovery of the prohibited items.
On this note, Comptroller Pascal warned those in drug business to quit as he vows to work hand in hand with NDLEA to entrenched a drug free Area.
In a related development, the Area Commander revealed that the command has also recorded seizure and detention of (9) units of exotic cars and other vehicle of different make with cumulative duty paid value DPV of one hundred and seventy million, one hundred and sixty thousand, two hundred and sixty seven naira (170,160,267).within the period under review.
Speaking further, Comptroller Pascal said the command recorded another seizures of over 104 Jerry- cans of Premium Motor Spirit worth 416,000 but had already been auctioned on the approval of the CGC due to the inflammationable nature of the commodity.
He lamented that it was difficult to imagine that despite the current high cost of petrol in the country, some unpatriotic Nigerians still attempted to snuggle this product out of the country through our borders.
He then warned smugglers to opt for legitimate businesses as the cost would not be friendly for them adding that it will never be business as usual.
Comptroller Pascal however attributed the achievements of Niger- Kogi Area Command of the Nigeria Custom Service to Professionalism, Commitment and Doggedness of Officers in the Command, while thanking the leadership of the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for providing an enabling environment for the command’s discharge of its duty.
