A former Commissioner in Imo State, Dr Fabian Ihekweme has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force for criticising Governor Hope Uzodinma administration.
The arrest according to Sahara Reporter occurred on Wednesday in the presence of his wife and children, at his Abuja Residence.
Dr. Ihekweme was reportedly after the arrest transported to Owerri, Imo State capital.
According to Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, in a tweet on Thursday,“Dr Fabian Ihekweme, a critic, was abducted by policemen yesterday in front of his wife and children in their Abuja home and taken to Owerri.
“His crime: criticising Hope Uzodinma, Imo state governor.”
Adeyanju who strongly condemned the action, describing it as an attack on free speech.
He also likened Uzodinma’s alleged intolerance for criticism to that of Nigerian artist Burna Boy. “Like Uzodinma, like Burna Boy,” he added.
