The tenure of Local Government Chairmen in Abia State has been extended from two to four years after the State House of Assembly ammended the law affecting the Local Government Administration in the State.
The decision follows effort made by both State Government, led by Governor Alex Chioma Otti, and the Federal Government to improve local governance.
Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, Speaker of the House, played a key role in passing the amendment.
The move is expected to create a more stable and effective Local Government System.
