Niger State Government has Reiterated it’s commitment towards the provision of steady portable water supply to the people of the State.
The Permanent Secretary, Niger State Ministry of Water Resources and Dams Management, AKILU MUSA KUTA disclosed this during an interaction with Journalists recently in his office.
Akilu Musa Kuta, said that the provision of uninterrupted portable water supply to the people of Niger State is the priority of Governor Umar Bago led Administration, adding that It was against this background that the Executive Governor of Niger State on assumption of office, decided to embark on a comprehensive approach resolving the problems of water scarcity in the State.
“For Niger State Ministry of Water Resources and Dams Management to achieve uninterrupted portable water supply within the State there was the need for private sector participation, Akilu Kuta however maintained.”
According to him, Niger State Government needed about 40 million Naira to buy chemicals for treatment of water in chanchaga Dam alone, adding that there are other Dams across the state calling for equal Government attention.
And how do you expect the State Government in the face of other responsibilities , to successfully carry out this huge financial burden in the water sector without private sector participation.? permanent secretary posed”.
This he said, prompted the Niger State Ministry of water resources and Dams Management to re consider the proposed partnership with a Chinese company called Hydronamics.
The Permanent secretary, ministry of water resources and Dams management believes that the partnership with the Chinese company ( HYDRONAMICS) will help the state Government in re- defining the huge financial requirements of the water sector and also ensuring the full implementation of policy that would enhance the provisions of adequate Steady portable water supply to the people of Niger State.
While the contents of agreement between the Niger State Ministry of Water Resources and Hydronamics( Chinese company) awaits it’s submission to the State Executive Council for ratification, the permanent secretary of the Ministry believes that the Chinese company has the required Finances, Technology and Manpower to carry out the partnership agreement with Niger State Government, for adquate provision of portable water to the people of the state.
In a related development, the member representing Bosso constituency in the Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Suleiman Gomna, has appealed to the Executive arms of Government to resuscitate Bosso Dam as quickly as possible.
The distinguished Lawmaker, stated this during a chat with Journalist recently in his office.
He said that the people Bosso Local Government Area massively voted for the Niger State Governor, Rt. Hon. Umar Bago, during the 2023 election, hoping that the issue of scarcity of portable water supply in their local Government Area will be address by him.
And there is no way the state Government will address the portable water supply scarcity in the Local Government Areas without the resuscitation of Bosso Dam. Gomna maintained.
