The management of the Dangote petroleum refinery has refuted the claims by Independent Petroleum Marketers that it has fixed the price of its Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol.

This was disclosed by the Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina on Tuesday while reacting to a report with the headline “Marketers Project N600/litre for Dangote Petrol”.

It would be recalled the PUNCH had earlier reported that Independent Petroleum Marketers in Nigeria are hoping that the Dangote refinery will sell its petrol at N600 or N650/litre when it is finally released into the market.

The IPMAN National Vice President, Hammed Fashola, in an interview on Monday said that the $20bn refinery would bring down the cost of fuel if it gets the needed support, especially as it has to do with crude supply.
Pointing out that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited ( NNPCL), which is the sole importer of petrol, has been selling to marketers at N570/litre, but most IPMAN members buy from private depot owners at N700 and above.

However, Dangote refinery said he has never discussed the price of petrol with the oil marketers.
Stressing that Nigerians and the general public should ignore the announcement, describing it as speculative.

, “Our attention has been drawn to headlines announcing “Marketers Project N600/litre for Dangote Petrol” published in Punch Newspapers on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
