The Niger State Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago, has been applauded for a commited drive towards the development of sports in the state.
The Hon. Commissioner, Niger State Ministry of sport, Ibrahim Gulbin Boka, disclosed this during a chat with Achievers Magazine recently, in his office.
He described sports as an important sector loved and appreciated by all Nigerians irrespective of tribe and religion, hence deserves proper attention from the Government.
Perhaps, it is against this background that Governor Muhammad Umar Bago on assumption of office, decided to introduce a reform that would speed up the development of the sport sector in Niger State.
Gov. Bago’s reform policy in the sports sector, the Honourable Commissioner said, led to the re- constitution of a new Management Board for Niger Tonardoes headed by Engr. Dada, adding that this has so far relaunched the Team into the place of recognition in the Nigeria Premiership League Table after years of oblivion from the league.
The Commissioner therefore appealed to the Fans and supporters of Niger Tonardoes to be patient as the darling team which presently plays its home matches at Ahmadu Bello stadium, Kaduna State, due to stadium infrastructural decay will return back to Minna before January next year for their home games, adding that the ongoing re- modelling of Bako kontagora Stadium, Minna to a world class would have been completed by then.
The Commissioner of sports then appreciated the commitment of Gov. Bago’s administration towards the development of sporting Infrastructural facilities within the State, describing it as a gaint stride in the right direction.
Speaking further, the commissioner said the achievement of Gov. Bago’s administration in the sports sector will not be completed without mentioning the success story of the Niger State Team which won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the just concluded Nigeria Youth Games recently held in Delta State
