Gunmen suspected to be armed herders on Sunday, burnt down 23 houses in Egwuma community of the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
This was disclosed by the Council Chairman, Hon. Philip Ebenyakwu on Monday during a chat with the Journalist in his Local Government.
According to him, the Armed herders consistently invaded the Agatu West from Kogi State that happens to be their hideout.
“The area shares a boundary with Kogi State and is always vulnerable to attacks. Yesterday (Sunday), the armed herders attacked a community in the area, particularly Egwuma, where they burnt 23 houses and took away three motorcycles.
“Though there was no casualty, three villagers with gunshot wounds are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.”
The council boss commended security operatives deployed to the local government, adding that naval officers, on Saturday, confiscated a machine boat from invaders who usually attacked the area from Nasarawa State.
