HON. HARUNA ABUBAKAR ARAFAT MAGAJI

The bill to create the South West Development Commission( SWDC) was on Wednesday approved by House of Representatives.

This commission will be funded from the Federation Account as well as donations and gifts for rebuilding the region’s infrastructure and addressing ecological and environmental issues.

Following the House’s approval, the bill will be sent to President Bola Tinubu for final approval.

Although the commission has not been officially established yet, but N140 billion was allocated to it in the 2025 national budget, which was signed into law by the President.

It will be recalled that President Tinubu approved similar bills for other regional development commissions in 2024 and 2025, including the North-West, South-East, and North-Central commissions. Each region’s commission has also been allocated substantial funds in the budget, with the North-East receiving the largest share at N240.99 billion.
