The Niger State House of Assembly has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens by taking bold measures to tackle the pressing issues of insecurity and thuggery plaguing the state. 

This assertion was made by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Dr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, during an expanded emergency joint session with heads of security agencies in the state held at the Assembly Complex in Minna

According to the Speaker, the House has been proactive in addressing the security challenges facing the state, having sponsored motions as matters of urgent public importance and sent resolutions to the Executive for implementation. These motions are specifically designed to address the security challenges and ensure the safety of citizens.

The House also resolved to invite Heads of all Security Agencies for a meeting, providing a platform for key stakeholders to discuss security challenges and develop strategies to address them.

The Speaker emphasized that legislators are the voice of the people and have received a series of petitions from good patriots of Niger State on the challenges facing Minna metropolis. In response, the Assembly has strengthened its partnership with security agencies to tackle the issues of thuggery in Minna metropolis.

Henceforth, any individual, including those from the political class, found involved in acts of thuggery will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law. Furthermore, the Assembly has declared its intention to make thuggery a capital offense with no option for bail.

The Niger State House of Assembly remains committed to serving the people and addressing the challenges facing the state. Citizens are urged to disregard misinformation on social media and rely on verified sources for accurate information.

The Assembly is dedicated to transparency and accountability, ensuring that citizens are informed about its actions and decisions.

The emergency security meeting was attended by Members of the 10th Assembly, Commissioner of Police, Hon. Commissioner for Homeland Security, Niger, Comdr. NSDC, NDLEA, among others.
