Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi has pardoned 10 inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service ( NCoS) in the state.
The NCoS spokesman in Jigawa State, Sani Jahun disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse the capital of Jigawa State recently.
According to the NCos spokesman, the inmates were pardoned by Governor Namadi after they were recommended by the Advisory Council for Prerogative of Mercy.
“The Advisory Council for the Prerogative of Mercy in Jigawa, during its first sitting in 2025, recommended the release of 10 inmates across the state.”
“And in the spirit of Ramadan fasting and Sallah celebration, Governor Namadi approved the release of the recommended inmates,” the statement read.
The state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Abdulqadir Fanini however urged the beneficiaries to be of good conduct and refrain from committing crimes in future.
The Controller of NCoS in Jigawa state, Yusuf Lakpene, on behalf of the Controller-General of NCoS, Sylvester Nwakuche, appreciated the governor for the gesture.
The released inmates however were given a stipend for transportation to celebrate Sallah.
