The Swedish ambassador to Bamako has asked by the Military regime in Mali to leave the country within 72 hours.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mali blamed the decision on what it called a “hostile” statement by a Swedish minister.
“The Sweden’s minister for international development cooperation and trade, Johan Forssell, said on Wednesday that the government had decided to phase out aid to Mali.”
Though the Government of Sweden has not reacted to the development.
It will be recalled that Mali and its neighbours Niger and Burkina Faso have formed closer ties with Russia after military leaders took over in these countries.
In view of this they have been at loggerheads with their former colony France, regional heavyweight and bloc Nigeria and ECOWAS, and the United States.
Mail in 2022 gave France ambassador 72 hours to leave the country over what it termed as outrageous comments made by French foreign minister about the transitional government.
