Prices of food items would be crash during this year ramadan by the Niger State government as part of effort to elevate poverty in the state.
Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State stated this during his engagement with the State Imam Forum, Nigeria labour Congress Leadership, Local Government Council Chairmen, Secretaries of the eight Emirates, and the Representatives of the All Progressives Congress and Market Associations at the Government House, Minna.
Farmer Umar Mohammed Bago said his administration is committed in ensuring dividend of democracy get to all its citizens.
He said one thousand trucks are to be sold to public at the fifty percent market price reduction while five hundred trucks of assorted food items will be given to the less privileged free in strategy places across the twenty five local Government areas in the state as each Local Government Areas will be given 10 trucks of food every 10 days of Ramadan to be sold at subsidized market price while additional 500 trucks of assorted grains to be given out free to the vulnerable ones in the Society.
The bumper harvest from the agriculture initiative embarked upon by the Farmer Governor Umar Mohammed Bago led administration and farm produce items realized so far through the private sector initiative Niger Foods that brought engagement with stakeholders to stretegize on how best to reduce the prices of food for people during the Ramdan season.
Meanwhile, the State Government have realized 50 billion Naira from Agriculture and Livestock stresses the need of people to dwell into agriculture production because of its potentials and call on citizens to strive away over dependance on oil mineral resources as the major source of resources in country.
The Governor however set up Committees that would carry out the responsibility has early calling on them to discharge their duty with the fair of Allah.
