The Niger State House of Assembly has mandated the House Standing Committee on Works and Infrastructure to conduct a formal investigation into the uncompleted building project at the General Hospital Minna, several years after construction commenced.

This decision followed after a motion sponsored by Hon. Pharm. Nasir Umar, Member Representing Paikoro Constituency.

Hon. Pharm. Nasir informed his colleagues that the construction project, initiated by the past administration under former Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, aimed to mitigate the overstretched facilities of the General Hospital Minna. He said fespite the relocation of some departments to temporary sites, the project remains uncompleted, exacerbating the hospital’s infrastructural decay.

The uncompleted project has led to increased referrals to private clinics, which charge exorbitant rates for healthcare. Medical doctors working at the hospital have also been referring patients to their privately owned hospitals. Hon. Pharm. Nasir emphasized that unless the building project is completed and equipped with upgraded facilities, the hospital will continue to suffer infrastructural decay.

The House unanimously adopted the motion, with the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Barr. Dr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, presiding over the plenary. The Committee on Works and Infrastructure has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the project’s status and providing recommendations for its completion, the speaker, directed the committee to invite ministry of workers and infrastructure at the site.
