The Niger State Motor Vehicle Administration Agency ( NSMVAA) has the capacity to generate 3 billion Naira annually as IGR if adquately supported by the State Government.

This was the submission of NSMVAA. Executive Director, Dr. Dalandi Bako during a chat with Journalists recently in Minna.

The Executive Director told Journalists that there was the need for Government to exploit and harness the potential in the Agency in order to boost the State Internally Generated Revenue.

It would be recalled that the mandate of Niger State Motor Vehicles Administration Agency, (NSMVAA) is to ensure effective registration and data collection of all vehicles and Motorcycles plying the roads of state territory as well as registration of those that engage in vehicular trading within the State.

The Director further disclosed that the NSMVAA is also responsible for the issuance of Identification Marks which the public refer to as plate Number as well as the Issuance of drivers license, Operator licences for Transport Companies as well as Road Worthiness Certificate for commercial Vehicles in every 6 months and 12 months for private vehicles.

In view of these, Dr. Bako believes that NSMVAA has the capacity to boost the Internally Generated Revenue of Niger State if the administration of Rt. Hon. Muhammad Umar Bago supports the Agency in the Area of provision of more Operational Vehicles, improved staff strength of NSMVAA, as well as ensuring full implementation of the Agency operational Law.

According to the Executive Director of NSMVAA, Niger State and FCT Vehicular Administration which presently generates Five billions naira annually were on the same topographical terrian adding that while FCT vehicular Administration is having heavy and concentrated traffic flow, Niger State experiences dispersed traffic concentration across the 25 Local Government Areas of the State.

It is in view of this, that Dr. Bako emphasizes on the need to employ more personnel for NSMVAA as well as provision of more operational Vehicles for the Agency in order to take Vehicular Administration to the grassroot communities.

This is because there are lots of unregistered Vehicles, Motorcycles that rove our community Markets on daily basis across the State.

“For us to tap the right Revenue from the Vehicles plying the state roads, we must have their accurate data” Dr Bako declared.
Moreover, Dr Dalandi Bako, believes that the accurate data collection of all vehicles plying Niger state roads will assist the Security Agencies towards ending the perennial insecurity in the State.

There is no doubt, that the accurate data collection is the first intelligent gathering step the security agencies require to carry out their assignment successfully.

The NSMVAA told journalists that there’s no crime, whether Banditry, Robbery or Kidnapping that was being carried out without using Vehicles or Motorcycles.
That is why am so critical to get all vehicles and Motorcycles registered. NSMVAA declared.

However, it would be recalled that when operation of Vehicular Administration was transferred to the State in 1960, the chief VIO of the State becomes the Chief testing and licence officer of that State, while the license Authorities are appointed to assist the principal testing and license officer of the State to carry out his duty.

Although, the two are supposed to be domicile in the central Motor Registry according to the Road traffic law cap 118 of Niger State but the Central Motor Registry was not formed.

The principal license officer was domiciled with Ministry of Transport while license authority were domiciled in Niger Board of Internal Revenue.

This separation created an institutional gap that affects an efficient Vehicular Administration in Niger State.

In view of this, the Executive Director of NSMVAA told journalists that the legal Instrument of operations officially gazettes that was later given to the Agency mandates the license Authorities to come together as an Agency, emphasising that the chairman of Niger State Revenue Board is expected to release the license authority to come and work with the NSMVAA or transfer their Services to the Agency.

It is believed that in the New Organization, VIO, principal licence and testing officer who is of Status of Executive Director Of NSMVAA would work together and being adquately supervised by the State Internal Generated Revenue Services on generation that would be made for the State.
