The appointment of Alhaji Abubakar Usman Gawu as the Secretary to the State Government by the Niger State Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago, will play a vital role in the success of the administration.
This assertion was made by Hon. Abubakar Arafat Magaji, an aspirant for Gurara, Suleja and Tafa Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the just concluded 2023 general election.
Hon. Arafat during a chat with Achievers Magazine described Alhaji Gawu as a seasonal civil servant who before retirement from service had acquired enough administrative skills and knowledge that would enable him to maximize the potential of SSG office towards achieving the State Government goals.
According to Hon. Arafat” Every successful Government must have a competent SSG”.
This he said because the SSG office is saddled with the responsibility of assisting Government towards achieving its vision and objectives through the provision of advice as well as ensuring that the Government Ministries, Agencies and Parastatals implements the decisions, policies and programmes of the Government in power.
Therefore with the likes of Alhaji Abubakar Usman Gawu who understands the technique and administrative processes of Government, the administration of Rt. Hon. Umar Bago will do better than his predecessor. Hon. Arafat declared.
It would be recalled that before Alhaji Abubakar Usman Gawu was appointed as Secretary to the State Government by the Niger State Governor, he served as an Accountant and Internal Auditor in various offices of the Federal Government Ministries, Agencies including foreign Affairs as Assistant Director.
He also served as financial attachee to Embassy of Nigeria, Washington DC, USA as Deputy Director ( 2012-2016) for four years.
Returning from foreign posting, Alhaji. Gawu was deployed to the newly established Defense Space Agency as deputy director (Accounts and Finance) as a pioneer treasury officer and later got promoted to the post of Director ( Accounts) in January 2016 and was posted to the Nigeria Immigration Service as Director (Finance and Accounts) where he retired in the year 2020
