The brilliant effort by Omolara Omotosho, Team Nigeria in 4 by 400 meters mixed relay team that came from behind to steal the show by winning the Gold medal, has been described as Wonders of the 21st century.
This was disclosed by a sport Analyst, Idowu Festus during a chat with Journalist recently in Minna, Niger State.
He said, Resilience,. Doggedness and Renewed Hope preached by Tinubu administration was what propelled the athletes Omolara Omotosho who anchor the final leg for Nigeria to erased 15 meters deficit and overtake Botswana in the final 30 meters of the relay
It will be recalled that Emmanuel Ifeayin Ojeli started the race for Nigeria and handover the baton to Patience Okon -George, but a strong Botswana third- leg runner, BayapoNdori, proved too much for Sikiru Adeyemi to handle.
Therefore, by the time Adeyemi handed over the baton to Omolara Omotosho, many Fans who were inside the University of Ghana Stadium to catch the glimpse of the athletics event had written off the chances of Nigeria getting the goal medal.
This was because the Botswana had taken the lead with a good 20 meters gap but Omotosho made a stunning comeback to the surprise of athletics followers dug deep and kept up the pace.
With the crowd cheering, particularly waving Nigeria Flags and Banners, Omotosho opened up at the Home stretch and overtook Botswana’s anchor Lydia Jele.
Her never -say – die attitude further charged up spectators inside the Stadium, as they rose on their feet screaming at the top of their vioces. Omotosho coasted home with in 3.13 .26 seconds, which erased the 3.13.60 seconds the initial Africa record.
